Sharon Morton, RJEEducator Emerita of Am Shalom
Sharon Morton served as the Director of Religious Education at Am Shalom for 32 years, heading the adult education, Religious School and Hebrew School programs. In addition, she pioneered the concept of adult B'nai Mitzvah at Am Shalom. Her constant focus was on social action and social justice in all congregational programming. She was staff liaison to the Social Action Committee. She founded Sojourn (Social Justice Reform Network), comprised of 20+ congregations. Under her guidance, Am Shalom received national awards for innovative programming in the areas of education and social action.
Sharon is a former president of the National Association of Temple Educators (NATE), is the past president of Ziknay NATE, and has been involved in numerous educational and social action activities throughout her career. She was a long-time trustee of the Reform Pension Board, representing NATE. She was on the board of the Midwest Avenue of the Righteous, and in retirement she founded Grandparents for Social Action. Its mission is to teach grandchildren to be philanthropists and social action activists. She continues to be the Executive Director of that organization.
