A retrospective of women in Israeli music, featuring vocalist Maya Lahyani (NY Metropolitan Opera), Dan Nadel (guitar & musical direction) & Satoshi Takeishi (percussion)

Vocalist Maya Lahyani and guitarist Dan Nadel - both Israeli born and New York-based - take a collaborative dive into the unique sounds, poetry, emotions and history of Israeli lyricists and composers. The voices of creative women in Israel, often presenting the individual and collective yearning for home, peace, family, nature, love, consolation, coexistence, is an integral part of the Israeli songbook, bridging over a millennia of traditions and composers both native to the land and from across the entire Jewish diaspora. The tapestry of these songs provides an often-hidden narrative, one representing the sense of beauty, loneliness, fear and hope that is woven into its people.

While Maya and Dan typically perform in different settings - opera houses, concert halls, jazz clubs - Songs of Sweetness & Sorrow allows the diverse talents of these world-class artists to express sounds from the very core of their creative being, offering a uniquely powerful experience for listeners.
