The new Glencoe Community Garden is a village-wide service project for community members of all ages and abilities, that will serve local food  kitchens, pantries and other charitable organizations. It is a a sustainable, organic-practicing, food-producing mini-farm and garden, with accessible
planting areas for individuals with disabilities. The over 4,300 square feet of land has full sun exposure, and will provide vegetable crops, accessible flower beds, and a small composting area, all contained and maintained by a beautiful raw cedar fence and garden shed, and will provide a myriad of educational, social action and community opportunities.

The project was initiated by Am Shalom in honor of its 40th anniversary, breaking ground in Spring, 2012. Building began right here in our own Community Court. In the words of Rabbi Steven Stark Lowenstein, “The Glencoe Community Garden is a wonderful example of the deep roots in our community that will continue to grow and have a lasting impact on so many people. For those who will work to build the garden, for those who will toil in the earth, and for those who will benefit from the produce, this really is a unique example of so many people coming together to help make our world just a little bit better. For that is really our mission after all.”

The Glencoe Community Garden is located just west of Shelton Park next to the Phil Thomas Memorial Playground, east of Green Bay Road, north of Harbor Street, and west of Old Green Bay Road.
