Campaign Worker Responsibilities

The recommended 100 members of the different campaign committees serve, along with the Campaign Co-Chairs and the Coordinating Chair, as the leadership structure for Am Shalom’s $25 million Capital & Endowment Campaign.

They should all be individuals who possess the willingness, energy, passion and readiness to make a financial commitment at their capability level, thereby motivating others to substantially support programs, projects and activities involved in the campaign.

Targeting at least 100 men and women to be “The Committee” represents a statement in and of itself:  there is no other effort at Am Shalom that mobilizes so many members dedicated for a common goal . . . insuring the future of Am Shalom!

The organizational chart calls for seven subcommittees united under the one campaign umbrella.

 Major Gifts (members)

This committee oversees the securing of pledges of at least $100,000 to the campaign.  Members on this aspect of the campaign should themselves be donors in this giving category and be willing to talk with others about the importance of their financial support for Am Shalom.  The Major Gifts Committee will be responsible for sharing their personal stories with other individuals to inspire those who have given to Am Shalom in the past, to give again and engage prospective donors to become donors on behalf of the Am Shalom Campaign.  Members will also participate in the identification of individual prospects; host or help organize cultivation events specifically designed for engagement of individuals; conduct face-to-face solicitation calls on individuals; motivate other individuals involved in Am Shalom’s programs to be active in the Campaign by assisting in the identification, education, cultivation and solicitation of potential donors.

 Special Gifts (members)

Gifts between $25,000 and $99,999 are a critical part of the campaign and require tireless workers to make presentations to donor prospects.  Members in the Special Gifts Committee should be donors of at least $25,000.  Members of this committee should cut across all age ranges of Temple membership and be knowledgeable about the programs and services of Am Shalom.  The Special Gifts Committee will be responsible for facilitating ongoing communication with key donors and prospects in Am Shalom general membership on the progress of the Campaign as well as the cultivation and solicitation of those donors/prospects through receptions and small gatherings.  Members will also host or help organize events to educate and inform Am Shalom members about the Campaign and its progress.  The Committee members will also serve to motivate Am Shalom members to be active participants in the Campaign by identifying, educating, cultivating and soliciting other potential donors.

Congregational Gifts (members)

This grouping represents the majority of Am Shalom’s membership and requires passionate and committed workers at all age and giving levels.  The Congregations Committee will assist in educating the Am Shalom congregation on the Campaign and creating cultivation and solicitation strategies to garner additional support from the Am Shalom community.  Members will speak or help organize speaking engagements within the congregation and other congregational functions to educate and inform about Am Shalom and Rabbi Lowenstein’s vision for the Campaign.  Committee members will also serve to motivate congregational members to be active participants in the Campaign by identifying, educating, cultivating and soliciting potential donors.

Public Relations/Marketing/Communications Committee (members)

Individuals on the Public Relations/Communications Committee will oversee the development of a communications program that will be the face of the campaign to the congregation and the community.  They should be knowledgeable about marketing and public relations so that they can be actively involved in promotional and informational efforts about the campaign.  The P.R. Committee will assist in developing and refining key messages designed for target audiences around the current campaign and the broader mission and programs of the organization.  This Committee will also be charged with creating a plan for raising the organization’s public image in the surrounding communities.  This committee will be active primarily in the initial months of the campaign, providing guidance and expertise in helping the organization to more effectively articulate key messages regarding its mission, vision and activities, as well as on its campaign initiatives.

 Special Events (members)

There will be a number of milestone events during the life of the campaign and this committee will be responsible for overseeing and directing them.  Members of the Special Events Committee will assist in identifying and acting upon those milestones and other Campaign fundraising opportunities in which events will act as a tool to spread the vision and mission of the Campaign.  This Committee will oversee the event planning and authorize site selection, contract negotiation, staffing needs, catering, decorations, printing, etc.  Members will also contribute to developing event invitation lists; helping recruit and coordinate volunteers; lending name and assist in publicity of events, and assisting in identifying constituencies to be invited to event.

 Planned Gifts (members)

An important component of the campaign will be the securing of deferred/ testamentary gifts from older congregants.  The Planned Gifts Committee members should be knowledgeable about deferred gift sand act as a knowledge resource for members who will require assistance in structuring deferred commitments.  Committee members will assist in identifying and researching potential donors; cultivating and soliciting prospects; maintaining records of contacts; handling donor recognition; compiling records and reports of planned giving activities; developing, organizing, and maintaining volunteer networks where appropriate; actively educating congregants about the benefits of Planned Giving.  Members will also need to have a general knowledge of current charity tax laws and provisions.

 Financial Oversight (members)

The Financial Oversight Committee will take on responsibilities in several critical areas, including monitoring how gifts to the campaign are invested and spent, recognizing that systems need to be in place to deal with cash flow projections, timeliness of bills being paid, invoices being created to donors, and other procedural and “watchdog” concerns.  Members of this committee should be knowledgeable about business process, accounting methods, and other business aspects. This committee will work in concert with the executive director and the organization staff as well as the treasurer.  They will also participate and provide guidance in the Campaign budgeting process and to review statements and to recommend to the full Board an annual budget.  The Financial Oversight Committee will also be responsible for controlling current financial operations within the parameters of the approved budget, as well as review on a quarterly basis, statements/projections of financial position and to report these to the full Board as requested.  In the final phases of the Campaign, the Financial Oversight Committee will supervise the handling of funds in endowment and investment portfolios.

We invite members of the Am Shalom family
to join The Committee of 100
and
to determine which of these subcommittees would be most appropriate for them as Am Shalom looks to maximize individual talents, skills, and experience.
